Omani camels history since the dawn of the blessed renaissance.Oman Camel Racing Federation is the legal authority responsible for camel racing and competitions in the Sultanate. The beginning was in 1999 with Oman Equestrian and Camel Federation chaired by His Excellency,Al Sayyid Muhammad bin Sultan Al Busaidi. In 2002, it was chaired by His Highness Al Sayyid Asad bin Tariq Al Saeed. In 2006, (Oman Camel Racing Federation) was an independent federation chaired by Sheikh Said bin Saud Al-Ghufili, who is still the Chairman of the Federation.Camel racing has witnessed a remarkable development through the existence of a federation specialized in organizing this heritage sport and setting controls and laws regulating it. The Federation has contributed to the building new camel racing tricks in the various governorates of the Sultanate. During the reign of Sultan Qaboos,may ALLAH rest his soul, the Omani camels achieved great local and Gulf achievements in the Gulf Cup Championship for Camel Racing and other events winning many cups and medals. In 2016, the Sultanate hosted the Gulf Cup Championship for Camel Racing in its fourth edition in Al-Fulaij Track.All these accomplishments were achieved thanks to God and then thanks to the directives and great support of the late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said- may ALLAH rest his soul. Limited number of races used to be held, but with the development of the blessed renaissance, there was an increasing support andencouragement to preserve this ancient Omani heritage, and the integrity was tangible between the legislators of sport and other governmental and private agencies.Now, there are more than 30 camel races tracks to hold many official and private activities and events in addition to the annual races and competitions schedule that covers all governorates of the Sultanate, contributes to raising the quality of these competitions and is a source of livelihood for those interested in this Omani heritage sport.
